Love doesn't come with a syllabus.
Kelly Davidson has waited what seems like forever to graduate high school and get out of his small-minded, small town. But when he arrives at Hope University, he quickly realizes finding his Prince Charming isn't so easy. Everyone here is already out. In fact, Kelly could be the only virgin on campus. Worst of all, he's landed the charming, handsome, gay campus Casanova as a roommate, whose bed might as well be equipped with a revolving door.
Walter Lucas doesn't believe in storybook love. Everyone is better off having as much fun as possible with as many people as possible...except his shy, sad little sack of a roommate is seriously screwing up his world view. As Walter sets out to lure Kelly out of his shell, staying just friends is harder than he anticipated. He discovers love is a crash course in determination. To make the grade, he'll have to finally show up for class...and overcome his own private fear that love was never meant to last.
Love Lessons Heidi Cullinan Books
4.5 starsI loved this book very much for many reasons. First I loved the college setting. Yes it is true that I am a bit melancholic about that time period in my own life. But I also think it is such a great time for everyone to go through. It is full of innocence and discovery. I feel the author did a great job in capturing that on both MCs. On one hand you have Kelly who is just a freshman at 18. He has lived a sheltered life and it's just coming out of the cocoon of his home. He may be innocent but he is not completely naive and is even very grounded in life. On the other hand you have Walter who is an older upperclassman at 22. His life has been almost the opposite of sheltered and has commitment and abandonment issues yet he is still inexperienced in his own way. This gives this story a very fresh and hopeful setting.
There's a lot of UST in this book. Both guys want each other but are unwilling to act on it for different reasons. But the sexual attraction is always there simmering on the surface in every one of their exchanges. This makes for some heated flirtations, a heart melting first kiss and finally sizzling sex scenes. But don't expect a TON of sex and definitely not from the get go.
Yes, this is not a very angsty book. However what both guys go through feels real and plausible in both cases. Plus in the end there are no easy resolutions either which makes it seem more like real like itself.
I want to note that these guys loved nuzzling each other a lot and I loved ALL of it! Why is nuzzling lacking on other books that I noticed it so much on this one? I mean it is the perfect way to be close to someone show them affection and create some electric melty tingles :-)
Finally, although I usually am cynical of HEAs that involve such young couples, I completely bought the fairy tale ending in this case. And yeah after finishing the book I went to youtube to see videos for "Candle on the Water" and "Waiting for the Lights."

Love Lessons Heidi Cullinan Books Reviews
Love Lessons is a super cute, opposites attract romance! The housing department at school has just screwed Walter over. Instead of continuing to live in an apartment off campus, he's back in an underclassman dorm. Worst of all, he's got a roommate in a single room! But once Walter meets Kelly, things actually start looking up. He's not the dweeby geek he expecting. Kelly is hot, but naive, and Walter enjoys taking care of him. But Kelly likes Walter, and Walter likes Kelly, but he doesn't do relationships, and Kelly doesn't do hookups.
What I loved best about Love Lessons was Kelly. He is just too freaking adorable! He wasn't out, except to his parents, before coming to Hope University, so he's excited to finally be himself in public. He's also holding on to hope that he'll find a nice boy to have a fairy tale romance with and that his first time will be special. Kelly quickly learns that life is not a Disney movie (which he is a huge fan of), but he never loses his optimism. He may need to reevaluate what he wants, but he's also not going to settle for less than he deserves. He also realizes that while his roommate may not be the typical Prince Charming, he does have all of the qualities that Kelly has been looking for.
It was really sweet how Walter took care of Kelly. Kelly has very severe allergies, so has to be careful about keeping their room dust free, and watching what he eats. As we learn more about Walter's home life, it becomes very clear why he immediately jumps in to take care of his new roommate. There are a few incidents, where Walter jumps in and saves Kelly. What could be more Disney romance than that?!
The only thing that I didn't like about Love Lessons was that it felt long in places. There is way too much going on. It's not that I didn't like what was happening, but all of it together was a bit much. Of course there's the adorable romance, Walter going from a player to a prince, and Kelly finding out who he is. On top of that, there's Walter's family problems, Kelly's family problems, Walter's friendship with Cara, and them trying to help out a favorite professor. I would have enjoyed any of these plot threads, but together they became jumbled and slowed down the pacing.
Other than that, Love Lessons was great. I'm always up for a sweet and sexy romance, and this was definitely that! All of the Disney references were also wonderful and make me want to have a movie marathon!
If you are in the mood for a cute love story between a Disney nerd that believes in happily ever afters and a cynical player who has abandonment issues, than this is your story my friend.
In two alliterate words absolutely adorable!
Okay so we have Walter who comes from depressing family drama and has a serious case of abandonment issues, but at the same time, he is the school's Casanova. What can he say? The men love him! And what's not to love? He is cute, funny, good in bed...
Then Little Kelly comes into the picture. Cute Disney nerd with severe allergies but overall happy go lucky disposition. Now we get to see Casanova get all protective and worried. But hey, they are just roommates right? Well okay, just friends. Well.. maybe best friends, but that's it, right? Walter can't possibly have real feelings. I mean according to him, love is just fiction that Disney sells to make money. Right? RIGHT?!
Right Walter... sure.
You get the picture. Anyway, super cute read. It was just what I needed. Something cute and funny with light drama. They were endearing and this book made me happy. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
